Aadhaar Enabled Payment System

  1. Aadhaar enabled payment system also known as APES is an initiative by the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) which is empowering a bank user to complete financial transaction without any debit card/credit card or cheque book you can complete your transaction by using your aadhaar card(registered with your bank account) and biometric authentication only.
  2. The AEPS system is also known as Aadhaar Enabled Payment System. Instead of a debit/credit card pin, the merchant enters customer’s Aadhaar number and authenticates the transaction using customer’s biometric data. Once the fingerprint is verified customer’s account gets debited and merchant hands over cash to the customer
  3. To empower a bank customer to use Aadhaar as his/her identity to access his/ her respective Aadhaar enabled bank account and perform basic banking transactions like cash withdrawal, balance enquiry and obtain a mini statement through a Business Correspondent

Objective

  • To build a strong foundation for a full range of Aadhar enabled banking services.
  • To facilitate inter-operability across the banks through a safe and secure manner.
  • To subserve the RBI’s goal in electronification of retail payments.
  • To sub-serve the goal of Government of India (GoI) and Reserve Bank of India (RBI) in furthering Financial Inclusion.
  • Through AEPS, all bank account holders will be able to access their bank accounts through Aadhaar authentication
  • With AEPS, the only information required to initiate a transaction is Aadhaar number and biometric information
